The Negative Income Tax Experiments of the 1970s in the USA The four experiments were in:
1. Urban areas in New Jersey and Pennsylvania from 1968-1972 (1300 families).
2. Rural areas in Iowa and North Carolina from 1969-1973 (800 families).
3. Gary, Indiana from 1971-1974 (1800 families).
4. Seattle and Denver, from 1970-1978 (4800 families).
Campaign to Reduce Poverty in the United State
Catholic Charities USA released the : "Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America" based on its paper Poverty in America: A Threat to the Common Good in January 2007.
From Poverty to Prosperity
In April 2007 The Center for American Progress, a think tank, released a report : "From Poverty to Prosperity: A National Strategy to Cut Poverty in Half". It recommended 12 steps to cut poverty in half by 2017, including raising the minimum wage, expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit, and promoting unionization by enacting the Employee Free Choice Act.
Marriage
Citing data from the U.S. Census Bureau in a 2005 editorial, economist Walter E. Williams of George Mason University wrote that the poverty rate among single-parent black families was 39.5%, while it was only 9.9% among married-couple black families. Among white families, the comparable rates were 26.4% and 6%
